Austin prides itself on being the capital of live music, and has a number of concert halls that offer pop and rock music alongside a comprehensive calendar of classical performances. The artificial lakes around Austin such as Lake Travis are great for a day out in the summer, and aside from the pleasure of lying out on the sandy beaches that fringe the lakes, you can also enjoy a variety of water sports, and even go scuba diving in the lake if you are feeling active.
Just outside Austin there is a relatively good theme park called Texas Gardens that kids will love. It has a good mix of white knuckle rides and quieter attractions, and is a fun family day out for younger children. The park also provides access to a number of shows, and even has a few bars and restaurants that make it very popular with older visitors as well.
