Austin Events
Thanks to the number of special occasions marked out during the year in Austin as the capital city of Texas, the Austin Events calendar is a surprisingly busy one, and there are many weekends throughout the summer when you will find that the city is decked out with banners and parades in order to celebrate some aspect of either United States or Texan culture.
Perhaps the biggest event in the calendar is Independence Day, which is a national holiday across the country. In Austin, it is marked with a large public parade through the city center that includes many children on floats moving through the city. With funfair rides and plenty of parties to enjoy in the afternoon, and then a stunning fireworks display over the lake at the end of the evening, if you are in Austin on July 4th, you will surely have an absolutely amazing day enjoying the celebration of the birth of the nation.
Another major event in the Austin Events calendar is the celebration of the end of the United States Mexico war, which was fought largely between the Texans who sought independence from Mexico and their masters. The war, which is little known outside the USA included many stories of heroism including that of the Alamo, and provided much inspiration for many films and informed the local culture in many ways.
The Texas state fair takes place in the middle of the summer, and is a great time to visit the city. Attracting more than a million visitors each year, and providing the perfect showcase for all Texan culture, visitors will be able to enjoy a number of different attractions including cultural shows from across the state, animal and wildlife demonstrations, and plenty of funfair rides for kids of all ages. If you want to find locally produced art and crafts, then the Texas state fair offers a fantastic opportunity to do so, and is a fine time to visit the city.
One of the highlights of the Austin events calendar, and one of the best family days out in Austin is the Rodeo. While there are minor shows all year round, the Texas State fair event is the highlight of the sport’s year in Texas, and the show is absolutely thrilling, with plenty of cowboy skills on display.
